“Maxbit” has signed a digital transformation contract with the government of Zanzibar, Tanzania, involving a $35 million investment. The agreement utilizes the advanced Origami™️ platform through a government partnership (PPP) system.

Maxbit, The US based company which is regionally headquartered in Kuwait, is a prominent company specializing in digital transformation and electronic services. The company has secured a significant contract to enhance the digital infrastructure of the Zanzibar government, with a $35 million investment over a decade. This initiative involves leveraging its advanced Origami™️ platform integrated with artificial intelligence. The contract aligns with the government’s objectives to optimize public services and enhance the overall experience for residents and tourists visiting the renowned island in Tanzania.

This contract represents the culmination of Maxbit’s successive achievements in Kuwait across various sectors such as communications, universities, entertainment institutions, and clubs. 

In this context, Sherif El-Ghamry, CEO of Maxbit, expressed his delight at winning the contract, stating: “This project showcases Maxbit’s dedication to enhancing digital infrastructure in Africa and its pledge to offer its knowledge and systems to deliver top-notch service to the inhabitants and tourists of this renowned island. We are thrilled to collaborate with the Government of Zanzibar and utilize the Origami™️ platform to accomplish this objective.” 

He also mentioned that Maxbit is eager to inject these substantial investments into Tanzania, particularly anticipating a record rate of return on investment in addition to promoting ESG efforts and reducing carbon emissions which are among the main goals of Maxbit and Origami™️  platform.

El-Ghamry stated that they are in close communication with several African countries to offer comparable services. Additionally, they are in the process of finalizing discussions with a government in the Gulf region to collaborate on digital transformation through the Origami™️ platform.

The Managing Director (MD) of Zanzibar eGovernment Authority (eGAZ), Mr. Said Seif Said, asserted that the combination of ORIGAMI and their programs is a disruptive move and remains a deliberate decision on their part to position Zanzibar as a Pan-African sandbox for innovation and trade beyond powering TRUST, and efficiency in government service delivery.

“The ancient Japanese art called origami will be the key for providing advanced electronic services to companies, individuals, and visitors to Zanzibar, the island which has recently been ranked as the top destination to visit in the world according to the UK Bradt Guides report. Implementation of origami will help support our green island ambition as we seek to enable a paperless economy whose net savings have yearly estimated value of one hundred eighty million American dollars ( $180,000,000).

Mr. Yasser Rashad, Regional Director of Maxbit in Egypt and Africa, has affirmed that Origami™️ is fully prepared to offer intelligent electronic services in alignment with Zanzibar Vision 2027. This will support Zanzibar’s aspirations to become a prominent global tourist destination, particularly following its recent recognition as the world’s preferred marine tourist island in 2024. This collaboration is viewed as a model for discussions with various countries in the region, aiming for a swift and sustainable digital transformation. Such efforts are anticipated to elevate Zanzibar’s service standards and overall quality of life on international benchmarks.

The project is anticipated to encompass the development of various electronic services, such as electronic payment systems, digital document management, and communication platforms with citizens, along with enhancing the technical infrastructure to facilitate these services.
